pop up gallery

Usurp pop up gallery is now open in Harrow on the Hill town centre.  Our temporary location is exhibiting the beautiful textile works of Sba Shaikh in a full exhibition.  Within this space we are collaborating with Healthy Planet organization, with their Books For Free initiative.  Visitors are welcome to select from our enormous collection of donated books.  More details soon to follow.

community collaborations

This summer, Usurp community artist Aoife Twomey held a series of creative workshops for adults with learning difficulties.  The six workshops explored experimental art forms through individual senses. Participants were inspired by colour, shape, sound, movement, and smell to create original works of art by the end of each session.

This event was a joyful experience for everyone involved.  We are proud to showcase some of the inspired works produced by the participants.

feminist joybox exhibition

The Feminist Joybox exhibition was a triumph at Usurp this year.  This stunning mix media exhibition addressed feminism, the construction of identity and the problematic language of art.

Featuring works from three artists with contrasting backgrounds from Finland, Feminist Joybox successfully combined a multiplicity of materials, installation works and performative action. All three artists started as painters, expanding their practice to encompass a wider field of expression. Using "trauma is beauty" as a motto, there is a personal impact in the making of each work.

In response to the sucess of this event, we shall be posting an insightful interview with contributing artist Anne Mari Pasanen.
