The Feminist Joybox exhibition was a triumph at Usurp this year. This stunning mix media exhibition addressed feminism, the construction of identity and the problematic language of art.
Featuring works from three artists with contrasting backgrounds from Finland, Feminist Joybox successfully combined a multiplicity of materials, installation works and performative action. All three artists started as painters, expanding their practice to encompass a wider field of expression. Using "trauma is beauty" as a motto, there is a personal impact in the making of each work. In response to the sucess of this event, we shall be posting an insightful interview with contributing artist Anne Mari Pasanen.
